Colson Montgomery's furious finish to June didn't net him his first major league call-up, but it did get him back on at least one top 100 prospects list.
Both MLB Pipeline and Baseball America revised their rankings for the start of July, and Montgomery reappeared on the former list at No. 95, citing Montgomery's rising barrel rate as a sign that he's back to being a power threat, which is one of the pillars of his stock. He joins Noah Schultz (No. 17), Kyle Teel (24), Braden Montgomery (32) and Hagen Smith (38) to give the White Sox five prospects on the board.
BA's list features the same quantity, except it swaps out Colson Montgomery with Caleb Bonemer (No. 71). Bonemer is the fourth of five prospects listed, behind Schultz (24), Teel (35) and Braden Montgomery (53), and ahead of Smith (78). All players moved within the top 100 in accordance with their recent performances except for Bonemer, who jumped 15 spots despite hitting just .192/.326/.231 over 95 plate appearances in June.
Paul Janish talked a little about Bonemer during his Futures Game-related Zoom call on Monday, and the White Sox's director of player development said he's watching to see how Bonemer holds up in the kind of unrelenting heat and humidity he probably didn't encounter much in Michigan, and other situations that are new to him:
"Honestly, now, at this point, it's the second half of the season. How's he going to deal with it physically, those kinds of things, and seeing some of the guys in that league for the second and third time and making some of those adjustments."
