Not only did Curtis Mead make his White Sox organizational debut in Charlotte Friday night, but he accounted for the winning run in the Knights' 4-3 victory over Rochester at Truist Field. Granted, Dru Baker actually ended up scoring it, but Mead was the one who reached base to start the decisive rally, and either way, it was hilarious how it ended.
With the game tied at 3, Mead led off the bottom of the ninth by drawing a five-pitch walk from righty Michael Cuevas. That's when Dru Baker replaced him with the intention of stealing second, which he did as Andre Lipcius struck out. Cuevas also fanned Korey Lee, and that's when hubris kicked in.
With first base open, Rochester manager Matthew LeCroy walked lefty Ryan Noda to pick on Bryan Ramos. One problem: He walked Ramos on four pitches, only one of which was close, to load the bases
Then a second problem: He walked Dominic Fletcher on four bases to end the game.
Rochester BB's Curtis Mead to lead off the B9. K's or Lipcius and Lee. They decide to walk Ryan Noda to face Bryan Ramos who was 3-4 w/ a HR? They walk Ramos too (LOL), and then Dom Fletcher walks on 4 pitches. #Knights with a literal WALKoff 4-3 win. pic.twitter.com/WKiKatbw1V
