White Sox pitching prospect Noah Schultz

Noah Schultz

Noah Schultz will be pitching in the Arizona Fall League, but if he's able to stay healthy, he'll be able to amass five or so regular season starts before then, because Schultz will be starting against Norfolk today, per James Fox's report.

Schultz last pitched in the Futures Game on July 12. He tried to resume his regular season on July 20, but he was scratched with knee discomfort, which the Sox said had been a problem for a while. Sergio Santos told me on July 29 that they expected Schultz back in 3-4 weeks, and Aug. 24 meets that timeline.

Now we'll have to look at Sunday's Statcast data to see if pitching coach Scott Aldred was correct about the plan for Schultz's pitch mix upon returning: "When he comes back, it's going to be sinker, a sprinkle of four-seam, focus on the slider and the changeup, and keep the cutter on the back burner."
