Shane Murphy

Following up on Friday's talk about White Sox prospects worthy of Rule 5 protection, the White Sox might be required to add Shane Murphy to the 40-man roster at this point, if only due to sheer minor league achievement.

Murphy threw five scoreless innings against the Omaha Storm Chasers on Friday, which is the eighth time he's thrown a start of at least five scoreless innings this season, and the 10th time he's thrown a start of at least five innings without allowing an earned run. He needed just 55 pitches, which is the sixth time he's qualified for a win with a pitch count of 60 or lower. He crossed the 130-inning mark with an ERA of 1.58, and he's allowing 1.79 runs per nine.

Moreover, Kyle Tyler, who has 15 major league games and 48 innings to his name, followed Murphy in the sixth and immediately gave up a double, a homer, another double, and another homer before recording his first out.

Murphy topped out at 90.4 mph and generated just three whiffs. I don't know what you're supposed to do with this.

Omaha 10, Charlotte 1

  • Tim Elko was 1-for-5 with two strikeouts.
  • Bryan Ramos wore the collar and silver sombrero.
  • Shane Murphy keeps doing it: 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 39 of 55 pitches for strikes.
  • Kyle Tyler immediately after: 1.1 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 3 HR, 26 of 40 pitches for strikes.

Birmingham 2, Biloxi 1

  • Rikuu Nishida was 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts. He was also caught stealing.
  • William Bergolla went 1-for-4 with a stolen base.
  • Sam Antonacci maxed out his 1-for-4 because it was the walk-off hit.
  • D.J. Gladney went 0-for-3 with a K.
  • Ryan Galanie was a plain ol' 0-for-3.
  • Wilfred Veras went 1-for-3 with a triple and a stolen base.
